You can’t really visit Dubai without visiting Barasti. After sunset, the legendary beach club enters party-mode and attracts a wonderful crowd of sunburnt tourists and happy expats of all shapes and ages, all out to have a good time at this unpretentious spot.
Right after Poul and I moved to Dubai, we went to Barasti all the time. Nowadays, we don’t come there quite as often, but it’s still one of those places, I always take my visiting friends, and they all love it. I prefer Barasti at weekdays, when it’s less crowded and drinks are cheaper, but the good thing about the place is that no matter which evening you choose to go, it’s almost always busy, especially during the winter months.
There are two levels at Barasti: The ground floor (same level as the entrance) and the beach-level floor one stair down. The ground floor is usually where you meet with friends to have a beer and a snack. There’s often a live band playing sing-along hits and the atmosphere is laid-back and friendly. The beach-level floor of Barasti, one stair down, is more club-like with a DJ and a dance floor.
Food is decent but not thrilling and a bit pricey. The drinks however, are probably among the most affordable in this part of the city, with beers starting at 30AED and cocktails at 40AED.
Barasti is on the premises of the luxury hotel Le Meridien Mina Seyahi, but there’s a separate entrance to the beach club left of the hotel. The beach club is also very popular during daytime as there’s no entrance fee and the restaurant serves food and alcoholic beverages throughout the day. However, you have to come early if you want to grab one of the sunbeds, which are also free. There are showers and restrooms available, but remember to bring your own beach towel. You’re not allowed to bring food and beverages from outside the club.
